There’s no better time to have a home security system installed than during the new home construction phase. This is the perfect time to assess home security needs for you, your family, your belongings, and of course your home. Some of these considerations include:

  • Smoke Detectors
  • Door and Window Sensors
  • CarbonMonoxide Detectors
  • Indoor Motion Sensors
  • Flood Alarms
  • Closed-circuit Cameras

For a permanent home security solution, there’s no better approach than a wired system. For starters, a wired home security system will last for decades. You and your family will enjoy exceptional protection against such things as fires, burglaries, and broken water pipes. As you build your new home, you can work with the home builder to address and identify each of your security needs and concerns.

Smoke Detectors

One of the most important factors in surviving a house fire is early detection of smoke, fire, and heat. There are several rooms in your new house you should protect with smoke detectors; they fall into two categories. The first is high-traffic areas and the second is any room with an appliance.

High traffic areas in your house include each bedroom, the dining room, the family room, and the living room. Essentially, this is any room where people will regularly congregate. Rooms with an appliance that could be the cause of a fire include the kitchen, the laundry room, the furnace room, and whatever room holds yourwater heater. If a fire ever breaks out in your house, it will most likely start in one of these rooms. Remember, early detection of smoke, fire, and heat is the key to surviving a fire, and getting these devices installed and in place during the construction phase of your new home, ensuring the best protection possible.

Central Control Panel

The central control panel manages and monitors your complete home security burglar alarm system. This should be installed in an area of your home that is convenient to incoming and outgoing traffic. This can be near the front door, a garage door, or any other door in your house where you tend to enter and exit most often. Determining this during construction of your new home will greatly assist the contractor in running the necessary wires to and from all the right locations.

With each home security device and component in place, you’ll be ready to have your home professionally monitored by the home security company of your choice. You and your family will be protected from the first moment you move into your new home with the best home security burglar and fire alarm system available.

Boxelder bugs are present year round, but tend to cause the most aggravation for homeowners in February – April and again in September – November. How to treat them depends largely on if they are outside or have made it into your home. There are two ways to treat them and this depends on where they’re located. Chemical options are available if they’re outside and manual and reactive methods need to be used if they’re indoors.

While prevention is always preferable, if you have Boxelder bugs as unwelcome guests then you have them. Outside, several chemicals are available which will control the pesky insects, and many are eco-friendly, made from plant oils. These are ideal and can usually be used in your garden or on trees without hurting the vegetation. If you are past this point, and full grown bugs are on your home exterior, you may need a higher strength chemical. Use these as a last resort as most are not eco-friendly and they can be harmful to humans and pets. A few of the pesticides which will control Boxelder bugs are: Cyfluthrin, Bifenthrin, Permethrin, and Deltamethrin. You only need to treat the areas of infestation, and spraying your whole house is not necessary. Wait for a sunny day when they like to gather in the light and warmth, and you can hit them in one small spot. This is ideal as even with more eco-friendly chemicals, we always recommend using as little as possible in order to not pollute. If you must use chemicals, you can at least take steps to use them sparingly.

These bugs love to burrow inside your house. They are able to slide in through very narrow cracks and small crevices in window sills, skylights, roof joints and stucco. Seal up all visible cracks and you’ll go a long way in preventing the Boxelder bugs from entering your home. If they don’t get in, you’ve solved the problem. Once inside you can simply let them run their course (they will leave when weather is warmer), or you can extricate them manually with a hose attachment on a vacuum cleaner. Find where they congregate and turn on the vacuum cleaner, empty it out after every use and in a mere few days the bug population will decline.

In cold climates, Boxelder bugs go into hibernation, and they will hibernate in your walls or roof if they can get in. Late summer could be a great time to seal up those cracks and both prevent the bugs from entering your home, as well as keeping your house warmer as the temperatures drop.

A more permanent, if not drastic, approach for controlling boxelder bugs is to remove certain types of Maple or Boxelder trees in your yard. The bugs are attracted to these types of trees – especially the female trees — during the warmer months. While Boxelder and some types of Maples such as Silver Maples are often problem trees anyway, there could be multiple benefits from removing them. Other maples, such as Reds or Sugars, have high landscape value and should not be removed just because of the bugs – try other methods instead.

Moving companies, moving scams, moving quotes, moving costs, moving services
Are you aware how moving scams take place? If you are planning to hire a moving company, you must know the warning signs of a scam to prevent yourself from being their next victim. Competition among moving companies in this industry is highly competitive, which raises the need for absolute watchfulness. The followings are some warning flags of scamming moving companies and how you can avoid them.
• Moving quotes based on cubic foot not by weight. The moment you notice this type of bid, immediately get rid of the company. Charges based on weight can be computed accurately as you would be provided with a proof of weight. On the other hand, computation based cubic foot would not give you a reliable proof of the charges made. In August 2005, fees computed by cubic feet are made illegal in interstate moves as it had become the most common form of scam.
• Sudden increase in moving costs right after packing and loading your goods in their delivery truck. To avoid this problem, lay everything agreed upon in a formal, written contract. This way, they would not be able to force excessive charges not reflected on the contract.
• Untimely arrival of shipment. Too long delay is also a red flag of moving scam. Dependable moving services are capable of delivering of your goods within the timeframe reflected on the contract. You can allow certain adjustments to make room for bad weather conditions and other justifiable reasons but it should also be logical enough. However, in this type of situation, the only thing you can do is to report them to the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration which oversees the moving industry.
